EXCERPTS: I also had to learn how to say NO!  Along with not being taught proper financial etiquette, my family tried to drown me since I was the only one with a head above water.  Not literally “drown me” as in a body of water!  Let me explain.  It is known that the human reaction to drowning is to hold someone else down to save your own life, even if it is your own child!  So in a figurative tone, my family grew up with no resources nor knowledge of paying taxes, building credit or home equity.  They just know how to SURVIVE!  Surviving includes depending on government funds and asking other family members and loved ones for temporary money.
